Alexander & Caddick highlight bypass case
12/11/2011
Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey MP Danny Alexander has been joined by newly elected Liberal Democrat councillor Carolyn Caddick and Cllr Thomas Prag to highlight the case for bypass action.
Commenting newly elected Councillor for Inverness South, Carolyn Caddick said:
“As a daily user of Inshes Roundabout, and having spoken to many local residents over recent months, I understand the difficulties that the current congestion causes.
“We need to see action to deliver the bypass our city needs and I hope that the Scottish Government will listen to the concerns of local residents and take action to finally deliver on their promises.”
Cllr Thomas Prag added:
Half a decade ago, the SNP were telling the people of Inverness that they would build a city bypass ‘much sooner’ than 2012 – and pay for it in full. They said they would dual the A9 and the A96 too.
“Five years later, we don’t even have plans in place to begin those projects, still less any action.
“Inverness is now the home of Scotland’s newest university. Scottish Ministers should start by committing to a timetable for the new A9 to A96 link road which should serve the planned university and college campus.”
Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey MP Danny Alexander concludes:
“Even with resources constrained as they are now, the UK government has found the money to increase investment in transport over the next 4 years as compared to the last four.
“We recognise the importance that transport infrastructure investment can play in our economic recovery and I hope the SNP Scottish Government will find the courage to set more money aside for transport, unblocking the choking arteries of the Scottish economy, especially in the North.”
