Caddick backs call for 'Codfather' crossing
25/10/2011
Inverness South Lib Dem by-election candidate Carolyn Caddick is stepping up the campaign for a pedestrian crossing on Tower Road, below the Codfather fish & chip shop.
Tower Road has no pedestrian crossing point for children walking to and from school in Culloden and Smithton. The only pavement to walk towards Culloden is on the North side of the road, separated from large residential areas to the South by increasingly busy traffic travelling at 40mph.

Local Lib Dem Councillor Thomas Prag has been working closely with residents and officials to make the case for the crossing. Now Carolyn Caddick is pushing to get the project to the top of the council’s agenda by showing the scale of demand for a safer option – and the seriousness of safety fears.

Carolyn Caddick says:

“This is a key crossing point on an increasingly busy and fast road. It is on the route to school for many Smithton Primary and Culloden Academy pupils. A crossing will also make access to the shops safer for the growing community on the opposite side of Tower Road.

“Many residents have told me they want to get this done before there is a serious accident. We need to make it clear that a new crossing deserves to be a priority.”

Inverness South Lib Dem councillor Thomas Prag said:

“Showing the scale of local support for a crossing will help to strengthen our case.

“It’s not just about school kids either. I have seen mums and dads with buggies waiting to get to the shops while the traffic whizzes past.

“I know that council officials understand the problem and agree a crossing is the answer, it’s just a question of getting it to the top of the queue.”
