United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), this week awarded Biosphere Reserve status to Wester Ross.
As a reserve, communities between Knoydart and Achiltibuie will benefit from management, research and education in conservation of the local ecosystem - including the sustainable use of natural resources.
Welcoming the announcement, Skye, Lochaber & Badenoch candidate Angela MacLean said: “I’m delighted Wester Ross is to be recognised and protected as a Biosphere Reserve.
“As well as looking after our unique landscape, the new status will help promote tourism to the area and help boost our rural economy.
“As one of only three Reserves in Scotland we have the opportunity to think about how we interact with our local ecology and lead the way in making the most of new sustainable technologies and investment.”
