CADDICK CALLS ON SCOTTISH GOVT TO DELIVER ON HOUSING ELECTION PLEDGE

The Scottish Government have failed to build 10,000 socially rented homes promised to be delivered before the 2016 Holyrood elections.

With more than 10,000 people and families on the waiting list for homes in the Highlands, Highland Councillor and prospective Scottish Parliamentary Candidate, Carolyn Caddick, has called for urgent action from the SNP Government.

Despite election promises to build 30,000 more homes for social rent, only 20,000 have been delivered. Charities have warned that nearly 5000 children are facing the prospect of spending Christmas in temporary accommodation this year.

Cllr Caddick said: “Without serious financial support from Scottish Government, many families will be left without a prospect of a good quality affordable home.

“The SNP have glossed over their failure to deliver this promise for more homes. We desperately need a positive and ambitious programme to deal with a very serious housing crisis, but like so many other failures, the SNP seem to be burying their heads in the sand.

“This is yet another example of the SNP taking the eye off the ball - just like the damage being done to our NHS, schools and police. Scotland and the Highlands deserve a Government who will take responsibility and govern, instead of waving their hands in the air.”
