Highland Lib Dem MP Danny Alexander is marking this year’s Veterans Day, on Friday 27 June, by stepping up his campaign to ensure that all of his constituents who have ever served in the armed forces receive their Veterans Badge as a recognition of their service.
When the Veterans Badge was first launched, applications were restricted to those who had served in particular years. However, the Ministry of Defence has now opened up the badges to every man and woman who has ever served in the UK armed forces.
Mr Alexander has been working to raise awareness of the Veterans Badge locally, but still believes that there are many people who do not know that they are entitled to receive one. So far he has directly helped well over one hundred Highland veterans to get the recognition they deserve.
He said:
"The Veterans Badge acknowledges the huge contribution and sacrifice that our ex-servicemen and women made. I know that many of those who have already received their badges wear them with pride.
"It is absolutely right that we all recognise the vital part people from across the Highlands have played in keeping us safe, often at great cost to themselves. I am always very pleased to be able to help them receive their badge – application forms can be obtained by visiting my office at 45 Huntly Street in Inverness, or by phoning 01463 711280."
