Highland Council Ward Map

The Highland Council is made up of 80 councillors representing 22 different wards. The current council was elected in 2007 and is run by a coalition of the Liberal Democrats, Labour and Independants.

The formation of the council is as follows:

Administration: Lib Dems 22, Labour 7, Independents 25

Opposition: SNP 17

There is also the Independent Members Group (5) and the Independent Alliance (4) who are not part of either the administration or the oppostion group.

Cllr. Dr. David Alston was elected to serve the Black Isle ward in May 2007, is Budget Leader, sits on the Resources Committee and is Chair of the Budget Information Group.

Alasdair Christie was elected as a councillor for Inverness West ward in a by-election on Thursday 23rd April 2009.

He joins existing Lib Dem Focus Team councillor Alex Graham representing the urban communities of Ballifeary, the Bught area, Kinmylies, Muirtown, Scorguie and Clachnaharry, as well as rural areas in Dunain and on the Leachkin.

Cllr. David Henderson was first elected to the Highland Council to represent Inverness Lochardil following a by-election held in August 2006.
