After learning the ropes, David moved to the Scottish Parliament to work for Liam McArthur. Together they campaigned on the local issues that mattered most from ferry funding to fuel poverty to forcing an SNP u-turn on centralising Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
After re-electing Liam with a record majority, David returned to Westminster. He played a leading role in the party’s efforts to hold the government to account and was latterly appointed as Head of Media. This gave David a taste of working cross-party to get things done.
Before his election as the MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross, David worked for the international development charity Christian Aid, giving voice to the most poverty-stricken people in the world.
David is the Scottish Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Public Service Reform, Europe, External Affairs and Culture. He sits on the Scottish Parliament's Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee and is a substitute member of the Rural Affairs Committee.
