Fix Our Highland Roads

To Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Transport

We, the undersigned residents of the Highlands, call on you to work urgently with Highland Council to create a dedicated Highland Roads Funding Plan to fix our deteriorating road network.

Highland Council has identified £233 million of road repairs across our region. Yet only around £22.5 million per year is being allocated. At this rate, it will take a decade to address the existing backlog — assuming roads do not deteriorate further.

The Highlands generate enormous wealth for Scotland through tourism, energy, food production and natural resources. We deserve infrastructure investment that reflects our contribution.

We urge you to:

  • Establish a multi-year Highland Roads Funding Plan
  • Provide additional, ring-fenced capital funding
  • Work in partnership with Highland Council to deliver long-term solutions

If local political leadership is unwilling to demand action, the people of the Highlands will.

It is time to Fix Our Highland Roads.
